Protector Knight Bust

This is, of course, a bust of Galidor MOC called Protector Knight, posted on Flickr by Dylan Mievis (Sparky) last September. Indeed, it is a couple of Galidor pieces reimagined in System in larger scale. Why, you ask. We've had a tradition (I've taken part two years) of a Secret Santa collab, a group work thing where a bunch of builders get (by raffle) a receiver of a build gift, an image of a model that is something personal to the receiver. My past entries have been Dustsettles and Γαῖα. This year no one had time to organize the raffle in time. A couple of weeks before Christmas we five participants  decided - in secret - to each build something to Dylan; The reason being that apparently several times his gift-giver has failed to deliver everything. We wanted to make it right.

Why, exactly, did I choose the Protector Knight? Mostly because I earnestly though it was a cool design, despite just being a guy conisisting of few pieces and having a face of the backside of a rare galidor walrus headpiece. The hammerhead shark robot with round eyes (probably) and apparently some ginger hair was cool. I first though of making the whole character in similar scale than the original, but the head ended up quite large and time before moving east for Christmas was creeping near. I settled on a bust on a large, detailed scale. The round, goggly eyes link it back to some of my older odd robot builds.

A couple of details worth pointing out are the use of old purple parts on the jaw and neck, as well as the mock-up Galidor ratchet joint using black and dark bley rounded arch pieces. The purple wedge plates are from Chaos Pick-a-Brick box that were common in Finland around 2004. The neck uses plastic space wheel, which I think has somehow similar aesthetics to the Galidor theme. And the last piece of lore: Galidor theme was never released in Finland, but the video game appeared in the local Lego catalogue. It caused plenty of confusion in 8-years-old Eero who could not associate it with any Lego themes. The spring catalogue had a image of Nick Bluetooth with wings instead of arms, which didn't make it any easier to understand.
